Quiet Before The Storm

Today I went shopping for these:

I had decided a while ago that I wanted to start wearing scrubs for massaging I just hadn't gotten around to buying them. So when I was offered the medical massage therapist position at a local rehabilitation doctor's office I made it a priority to stock up on scrubs so I could stop ruining my "street " clothes with oils and creams. Well, today I had to go to THREE different places, two Walmarts and Home Healthcare America, to try to find scrubs in my size. Needless to say it was extremely difficult to find matching colors in 3x, which must be a hard size to keep in stock. That or they make very little large sized scrubs that people like myself snarf them up. It did not feel good, in fact I felt my heart sag a little in my chest.... kinda like other parts in that same region.
So once again it reaffirmed what I must do because it has been abundantly clear that I haven't been the past 2 months. So I have devised a schedule that I aim to steadily work up to and would like to share it with you to see what you think. Here goes:
  • Monday: work 9-5 then hit the gym for a class or workout of my choice. Or if I have clients work at my office for no more than 2 sessions
  • Tuesday: work 10-7 then hit the gym for at least an hour
  • Wednesday: work 11-6, gym or take no more than 1 client at my office
  • Thursday: work 10-7, gym
  • Friday: work 10-5, gym or take no more than 2 clients at my office
  • Saturday: off two or more a month, work at my office no more than two a month
  • Sunday: two classes at the gym back to back

Now I know there will be some week to week tweaking involved because it will depend on how busy I am at work and at my office as to how much I will make it to the gym during the week. If I am able to work out during the week I may decided to take Saturday or Sunday off from workouts. On the food front, I only get a half hour for lunch which means that I will have to brown bag it. Breakfast I will eat before I go to work but then I will have to pack lunch, snacks and possibly dinner depending on my workout schedule. I may just wind up eating A LOT of salads for dinner. So what I have gathered from what I want to do here is that I will have to be super organized; meal planning and cooking in advance, packing my gym bag the night before, going to bed the same time every night and waking the same time every morning. Which is probably what I have needed all along. Wish me luck and let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks for stopping by!

Challenging Challenges

Hello all! I just wanted to address something really quickly before I resumed an actual post. In the past week I have received two very judgemental comments on my blog. One concerning my language and the other how much I eat. The former at least left their blog name so that I could get an idea of who they where (even though they haven't posted anything on their blog in which to comment on) but the later isn't even a blogger or if he is he is too scared to leave his actual address and would rather hide behind a "screen name."

To the first negative Nancy, if the words that I use upset you then please feel free to discontinue reading my blog. It's a free country in which I can write what I choose and you have the right to not read it. If you don't like my blog then just don't read it. It's really not necessary to leave me a comment to say that you don't like it or that my language offends you. Really, I wont be upset if you don't read. :)

To the second downer Dan, I don't need or appreciate your negative or judgemental comments about how much or what I eat. Obviously food is a gray area for me, one on which I am working but it is a process and nobody is perfect. I make mistakes, I eat things that are not good for me but I also eat things that are. That is why it is a CHALLENGE for me. I don't put down the ounces of what I eat because I don't measure, which maybe I should but that is my choice. The first step for me is to be honest about my mistakes and record them whether I want to or not because I am serious about becoming healthy but again, it is a work in progress. For someone who has a very physical job like myself and exercises I do need more fuel than the average Jane. And when I do make a not so healthy choice, believe me, I am beating myself up over it more than you ever could. So no thanks, I don't need help in that department.

I'm sorry that I even had a need to make this post and I am not trying to be negative myself. I receive far more supportive comments than not but felt it should be addressed.

Hey other weight loss bloggers, is this a problem for you too?

Wait, What Day Is It?

Where did the week go?! I could have sworn that only two days ago I started this weight loss blog. Well it was a holiday weekend and I was extremely busy with work and family but that is still no excuse for starting something new and leaving it dangling out there in cyberspace. So here I go.... again.

I have been looking at a lot of weight loss blogs over the past few weeks trying to get ideas for what I would like to cover on this blog and what kind of system I will use. Then I started to over plan and over think and freak myself out. So I have decided to have a general guideline to follow with plenty of room for change and flexibility as needed.

I do have a few rules for myself that will hopefully help me stay sane and focused:
  1. Remember Olivia, this is a journey to health not a scary obsession with being thin.
  2. Approach this weight loss with a positive attitude, negativity has gotten you where you are which is why you need this blog.
  3. Hold myself accountable. I make the decisions as to what I eat, drink and how I move or don't move.
  4. Weigh myself only once a week.
  5. Do some sort of physical activity everyday. Extensive workouts at least 3 times a week.
  6. Take my measurements once a month.
  7. Come up with a non-food based reward system for achieved weight loss goals.
  8. Eat and prepare real food. No processed fake foods or sugar substitutes.
  9. Focus on well rounded total health such as; vitamins, meditation, body treatments and plenty of restful sleep.
  10. Most importantly: Have Fun! Enjoy this journey because this is your life NOW.

Since I do not own a scale and have no intentions of buying one I will be weighing myself at the gym which is yet another reason to get my butt there on the regular. I already have a tape measurer around here somewhere and as soon as I find it I will post my measurements.

See ya tomorrow!
